Winery location: Western Cape, South Africa
For Day 16 we go back to South Africa for this Shiraz from Point Taken. Due to shipping issues, Costco actually shipped two different wines from Point Taken – Bordeaux and Shiraz. We wound up getting the Shiraz, which is good seeing as I haven’t had Shiraz in a while.
This wine is jammy and rich in terms of flavor. The nose is layered with plum, currant, strawberry and hints of cedar and even some tobacco. The palate is no less complex, featuring cooked blackberry and plum, cocoa and a hint of leather earthiness and spice. The tannins are silky and well integrated, increasing the wine’s body and structure without overpowering the fruit flavors. All in all a great wine for steak and other heavy meat dishes or to be enjoyed on a cool evening with friends.
