Wine: Mestizaje Mestis Blanco 2020
Winery: Bodega Mustiguillo (Valencia, Spain)
Grapes: Merseguera (75%), Viognier (20%), Malvasia (5%)
Today we remain in Valencia, Spain with another Merseguera blend. While the Delmoro Blanco has bright flavors the Mestizaje has a richer taste. It’s still very much fruit forward – tropical and citrus fruits predominate with a floral (white flowers) undertone that is intriguing. This same floral characteristic is present in the “expressive” nose, which adds to its intensity. The Mestizaje is slightly fuller in body than the Delmoro, with a long, satisfying finish. I paired this wine with my lunch, rice pilaf with garlic-herb shrimp and parmesan, and it provided a good complement to the dish. Overall, it might be a little heavy for a porch-pounder but still a delight to drink. I gave it a 4.0 – two A-plus Spanish whites in a row with the Merseguera grape. I think I might have a new favorite for summer whites!
I love a nice white, am a big fan of Albarino’s, will have to look for this one!
