Complicated Red Wine Blend 2018

Winemaker: Complicated Wines (St. Helena, CA)
Varietals: Grenache (69%)
Syrah (31%)

This wine was recommended to me by a customer, who made me promise to buy a bottle before I left work. A blend of Grenache and Syrah, the nose of this wine is soft, with fine aromas of dark berries (blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry) followed by a hint of red flowers.

On the palate, blackberry, black currant and black raspberry are the main fruits, but lavender and spice gently assert themselves, as do the tannins which are silky. The wine has a full, rich mouthfeel that is surprisingly creamy, a trait I usually associate with oaked white wines. Apparently the Grenache had undergone malolactic fermentation for a nice rounded palate that makes an easy drinking red. The fruit on the long finish adds to the pleasantness. All in all a very nice red wine that is as affordable as it is sophisticated.
