Lightning Strikes Again Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Region: Chile
It’s that time of year again, Advent is upon us and for me that means breaking out the Wine Advent Calendar. My wife and I are going back to Costco’s Around the World Wine Advent Calendar, as out of the calendars we’ve found that Costco’s had the best variety. Even if not all of the wines are hitmakers, they are diverse and that’s what makes it interesting for us.
Take for instance the first offering of the Advent – Lightning Strikes Again, from Chile. It’s a Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a very pleasant red to drink. Cherry and plum on the nose, black cherry, brambleberry and vanilla on the palate. A nice, enjoyable red. That said, it isn’t quite what I expected in a Cabernet Sauvignon. It doesn’t have the richness or full body typical of many Cab Sauvignons, and while the tannin structure is fine, it is rather light, almost delicate at times, as opposed to its more tannin heavy brethren. It’s rather soft and a touch gentle, not what I’m used to for a Cab Sauv it’s rather soft, gentle. Nonetheless it is a tasty wine as I said earlier. I enjoy the flavors of cherry and vanilla and the wine has a smooth long finish. So while I wouldn’t choose it for a Cab Sauvignon, if I was looking for a solid, easy drinking red, this would be a solid choice.
