Winemaker: Pierpaolo Pecorari
Varietal: Malvasia Istriana
I was looking for a wine to try out for this week and my wife chose this 2020 Malvasia from Pierpaolo Pecorari. The Malvasia grapes are grown in gravelly soil with limestone, giving the wine a bright acidity and mineral undertones. The wine is fermented in stainless steel, remaining on the lees for 7 months and periodically undergoing batonnage. Fresh citrus fruits are on the nose like lemon and grapefruit. The palate is crisp and lively, with some spritz and a solid finish. Overall, a pleasant wine great for pairing with seafood (lobster ravioli in my case) and other white meat dishes.
