Balance of Power Cabernet Sauvignon(Uco Valley, Argentina) Day 19 – we try a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Uco Valley in Argentina – Balance of Power. A bold title, to be sure, but does the wine back it up? This nose is deep and complex, with aromas of dark red fruit – blackberries, black cherries, andContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 19”

Wild Child Rosé For Day 18, we try a rosé wine from the Wild Child label, titled simply “Wild Child 2023 Rosé Wine”. I will confess that when I first smelled the rosé I was rather underwhelmed – the tasting notes referred to the aromas as “delicate”, but they were so faint they were almostContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 18”

Grenache (California) One more week of Advent to go! Day 17th’s offering from IGT is a Grenache from California. You might recall on Day 3, we tried a Garnacha from the same label. For those who don’t know, Garnacha and Grenache are actually the same grape variety, a thin-skinned grape originating in Northern Spain thatContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 17”

La Pluma Fiamo (Italy) On the 16th Day of Advent, we have an offering from La Pluma that features a grape never tried before (at least not in my experience): Fiano. Also known as Fiano di Avellino, this white grape is found in Southern Italy, particularly the Campania region. This is a lush beauty, withContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 16”

Wild Child Zinfandel (Lodi, CA) For the fifteenth day of Advent we go to Lodi California, the home of Wild Child’s 2022 Zinfandel. Aromas of blackberry, currant and plum swirl in the glass. The palate is pretty jammy, with lush red fruit and blackberry flavors and a hint of chocolate. This is a medium bodiedContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 15”

Andiamo Nerello Cappuccio (Sicily, Italy) For Day 14, we once again go back to Sicily for Andiamo’s Nerello Cappuccio. This is a very bright, expressive wine, with aromas of cherries and strawberries. I also detected a hint of spice. The palate is bursting with cherry and red fruits. Also the spice makes a comeback here.Continue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 14”

La Pluma Gewurztraminer (California) Day 13’s wine is a California Gewurztraminer from the La Pluma label. It’s been an age since I had a Gewurztraminer, and I am not sure if I’ve ever tasted one from California. Most of the Gewurzes I had were from colder climate regions. So I went into this one notContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 13”

Wild Child Red Wine We’re halfway through the 2024 Advent season, and today’s featured wine is Wild Child Red Wine. This wine is a fruit bomb. Jammy fruit (Cherry, blackberry) on the nose and palate, pretty acidic with a light tannin structure. The tasting notes say there are flavors of chocolate and toasted oak butContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 12”

La Pluma Chardonnay (California) For the 11th Day we are trying a Chardonnay, from IGT’s La Pluma label. I liked this Chard. It is soft-bodied and fruity with a hint of vanilla, indicating that it’s lightly oaked. The fruit flavors and aromas are citrus – pineapple and lemon – with a satisfyingly long finish. TheseContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 11”

Fortune Favors Shiraz (Barossa Valley, Australia) For Day 10 we go to the Barossa Valley in Australia to try Fortune Favors’ Shiraz. This Shiraz is solid, with the expected aromas of blackberry and pepper. The palate is balanced with blackberry and dark cherry flavors. What I really enjoy about this wine is the tannins. TheyContinue reading “2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 10”
