2024 Wild Coast Sauvignon Blanc

(oops… The wife and I drank the wine before I photographed the bottle!)
For Day 19 Total Wines features a Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa, Wild Coast. With its intense flavors of grapefruit, lemon and tropical citrus (pineapple), it is a little bolder than its French cousins (except BDX’s Sauv Blanc – see Day 17), but not quite as bold as New Zealand’s offerings. Total Wine’s tasting notes include details of floral notes and stone fruit, but all I caught was the grapefruit and citrus. It didn’t strike me as complex as the tasting notes seemed to imply. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy drinking it (it takes a lot to get me to dislike a wine!) Wild Coast was crisp and quite refreshing, the acidity was finely balanced and not too overpowering. So all in all, while it may not be a master class in complexity (and for me not many Sauvignon Blancs are, I’ll confess, though there are exceptions), it is a good wine.
