Grand Sud Cabernet

A week to go to Christmas. Day 18’s offering, Grand Sud’s Cabernet Sauvignon can be summed up for me in one sentence: “Just the fruit, the whole fruit and (almost) nothing but the fruit”. Stewed cherries and raspberries dominate the palate with an undertone of mint. The tannins, normally a mainstay of Cabernet Sauvignons and other bold reds are surprisingly muted here. To say this is a full-bodied wine, the structure is almost delicate. Rather surprising for a Cab Sauv. Nonetheless Grand Sud has created a pleasant wine that is easy going with a solid finish. Those looking for more complexity and robustness in their Cabernet Sauvignons may want to look elsewhere but if you want a very drinkable and approachable red, you can’t go wrong with this one.
