Magic Box Red Blend

Day 16’s offering is Magic Box’s Red Blend from Spain, and I will just say this point blank – I think this may be my favorite red that I’ve tried so far this Advent. Warm notes of oak, baking spices, black cherry compote, raspberry and vanilla hit you all at once on the palate. Definitely a lot going on, but this is not a busy wine, everything is balanced nicely. The flavors share the stage in harmony. The tannins, while prominent are supple and not overpowering. They give structure and solidity to the wine without being abrasive. Full-bodied and smooth, and it even finishes strong. Total Wines’ tasting notes recommend pairing it with roast beef which is definitely a good suggestion, as it is robust.
Magic Box Red Blend is really comforting to me, like a fleece sweater. It definitely is a red I would enjoy in the fall and winter months, which fits in perfectly for Advent, and that’s probably why it’s the red I have enjoyed most so far.
