2025 Wine Advent-ure: Day 15

Grand Sud Pinot Grigio

When I was taking my WSET Level II class, my instructor once remarked that she could easily identify Pinot Grigio in a blind tasting. “If it tastes like water, it’s a Pinot Grigio.” Since then I’ve had a lot of Pinot Grigio wines that were stronger than weaker on flavor. It was almost like the Pinot Grigio winemakers followed the Michael Jordan meme where he says “…and I took that personally”.

Day 15’s wine, the Grand Sud Pinot Grigio, is no exception to this new rule. It has a good flavor with lemon, lemon curd as well as tropical citrus fruits like pineapple. The acid is moderately high and while the initial taste is crisp, the finish is fruity and surprisingly long for a wine such as this, the citrus flavors lasting well into the next sip. To say that there is acid, the mouthfeel is rounded and surprisingly not sharp at all, which is a plus over some of the Pinot Grigios I had recently. Overall it may not have been the most amazing Pinot Grigio, but it definitely goes a way to correct some of the shortcomings I’ve tasted in other PG’s and that in itself is saying something.
