Orée des Roses Rosé (Languedoc, IGP)

Day 14’s wine is a delightful little rosé from the Languedoc region of France, Orée des Roses. According to the blurb on the back of the label, “orée des roses” translates to “entrance to the rose garden”, which implies the delicacy of a French garden. Which is interesting because delicate isn’t quite what I associate with this rosé. It is lively, with fresh strawberry and raspberry flavors bursting on the palate and even lingering on to the finish. The acidity is present, enough to balance out the fruitiness and add a little zip. This definitely qualifies as a fun rosé and while Total Wines suggest using it as an aperitif, I can see this also as a party wine, a good, fruity alternative to White Zinfandel. And at $9.99, it’s as affordable as it is drinkable – which, again, makes it a good party wine.
