2025 Wine Advent-ure: Day 5

Magic Box Sauvignon Blanc 2024 (France)

Total Wine’s Day 5 feature is Magic Box 2024 Sauvignon Blanc. This French Sauv Blanc is delicate and somewhat softer than its more acidic – and popular – New Zealand cousins. It still has the trademark grapefruit on the nose and palate, along with some tropical fruit (papaya) and a hint of floral aroma. It isn’t as grassy as other Sauvignon Blancs, however. What really stood out to me was rounded mouthfeel of the wine, no sharp edge to the palate, no doubt due to its relatively modest acid level. The body is medium, as is the finish. Overall, I appreciate this gentler Sauv Blanc and if you don’t care for the grassy brashness of New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs (not that I mind those!), this would be a good choice. Sidenote: It paired well with some leftover Langostino Alfredo I heated up for lunch, though ironically, more acidity probably would made for a better pairing.
