2025 Wine Advent-ure: Day 3

2024 Grand Sud Chardonnay (IGP Pays d’Oc)

For Day 3 it is back to France, particularly the sunny southern IGP appellation of Pays d’Oc. Part of the behemoth Grands Chais de France Group, Grand Sud is known for making wines in southern France. Interestingly They are also known for selling their wines in the larger one liter bottle format as opposed to the conventionally sized 750 ml. bottles.

Grand Sud Chardonnay definitely lives up to the winery’s signature phrase “A Glass of Sunshine”. Pale lemon in appearance, the wine has aromas of lemon, white flowers and even a hint of tropical (citrus). The palate is lush. Lemon chiffon predominates as well as pear, with some light vanilla notes a small bit of tropicality. The wine is very rounded and rather soft, with some acidity. Overall it’s a simple, enjoyable Chardonnay, that like the Le Fizzy no. 6, makes for quite the porch pounder (and at 1 Liter there’s more than enough to pound all around), though the brief tasting notes also recommend pairing it with poultry and cheese. I think it also goes well with some seafood like shrimp.
