Betise Cocoa-Cayenne Cabernet

During the time of the Aztecs, chocolate and spice made for excellent bedfellows. Betise, the label that brought us the spicy Jalapeno-infused rose’ in Day 6, is back at it again with Day 23’s offering, Cocoa-Cayenne Cabernet. This wine is deeper in flavor than its lighter cousin (which is still pretty good, don’t get me wrong): Dark red fruit flavors (black cherry and blackberry) accompanied by chocolate undertone and a good dose of heat from the cayenne pepper. It’s a medium bodied wine, with a long, spicy finish. I paired it with a bowl of vegan chili (which had a kick of its own) and it tasted great. Considering the Jalapeno-infused rose’ of Day 6, Betise doesn’t seem to be a label for the conventional wine enthusiast or the spice-averse. But as someone who is both a wine lover AND a chilehead, it works for me. π

I tried this in the In Good Taste wine advent calendar & enjoyed it. I cannot find this winery or wine on Google. Where is it from & where can it be purchased.

Hi Kim!
So far, I haven’t been able to find either of the Betise wines (Spicy Rose’ or the Cocoa Cayenne Cabernet) outside of In Good Taste’s website, particularly the calendar. So it looks like you have to order it through IGT, probably as part of a mini-flight set since they don’t seem to sell single 750 ml bottles.
You can find their page at: https://ingoodtaste.com/.
