Balance of Power Cabernet Sauvignon
(Uco Valley, Argentina)

Day 19 – we try a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Uco Valley in Argentina – Balance of Power. A bold title, to be sure, but does the wine back it up?
This nose is deep and complex, with aromas of dark red fruit – blackberries, black cherries, and plums – swirling in the glass. The accompanying flavors are strong as well, not only are the blackberries and black cherries present, but there’s also black pepper and a deep smoky undertone. The tannins are silky, providing structure to the wine without it being overly harsh or grippy. Balance of Power is not only bold, but it is surprisingly smooth as well which is a nice bonus. The finish is OK, not as long as I was hoping but retained a nice bit of fruit and pepper. Overall, this is a solid cabernet, with nice body and a smooth, easy drinking character that underlies the strong flavors.
