2024 Wine Advent-ure: Day 6

Betise

And now for something a little different. This rose’, Betise, is an Advent Calendar first. Sure, you can say it’s the first rose’ of the Advent Calendar, but that isn’t a big deal, we’ve had rose’s before. No, this is the first jalapeno pepper-infused wine offered in any Advent Calendar.

The aromas of jalapeno hit you when you pour the wine in the glass, at least it did for me. It isn’t overpowering, and there are also hints of fruit, notably strawberries and watermelon, but the jalapeno does take center stage. It also takes center stage on the palate. There is a very mild kick. It won’t burn your insides, or even singe them but if you are spice averse you may want to give this one a pass all the same. That said, the flavors of strawberry and watermelon do provide a nice balance, and blend nicely with the jalapeno. Finish is long, again thanks to the jalapeno. Overall I enjoyed this wine, though I can see some folks saying that this is a gimmick or a fad wine. But at heart this beast is rather tasty.
