“Andiamo” Grecanico Terre Siciliane (Sicily)(IGT)

For Day 4 it’s back to Italy, or more accurately Sicily, for this Grecanico. I enjoyed this wine, but when I look at In Good Taste’s tasting notes and mine, I am wondering if we tried the same wine here. IGT’s notes say that I should be smelling and tasting lemon, herb and apple aromas and citrus flavors, with a hint of salinity on the palate. But my impressions were more tropical in nature – pineapple, papaya… I did get lemon on the nose and palate though, and both pineapple and lemon are citrus fruits, so there may be something to that. I’m not sure about the salinity – the wine is acidic but I didn’t really get much of a salt impression from it. But I definitely liked this wine all the same, the tropical flavors made this wine a delight to drink and the acidity provided a nice crispness and tang. Nonetheless I need to investigate this wine further, give it another tasting and see what the folks who recorded those notes were thinking.
