Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane (Sicily)(IGT)
In Good Taste’s Day 2 offering was a Nerello Mascalese from Sicily. This wine was a deep, rich ruby in color, with a nose of red fruit, particularly raspberry, strawberry and cherry with a hint of spice. But the palate was deeper than I expected, I tasted more plums, currants and earth. It was much fuller than the nose had led me to believe. The tannins were supple, and the finish was long. Overall this was a solid red with a hidden complexity that came out the more I tasted it.
