Argosy Pirates

Country: France
With a brash bold name like “Argosy Pirates”, this red blend from the South of France is surprisingly understated. Dark fruit flavors like black cherry and fig abound here, followed by tobacco, with a fruity yet savory nose. The structure of the wine has prominent tannins and a moderately high acidity. But while there is boldness in the wine, there isn’t much aggression. The wine has a more structured approach, with the tannins being silky as opposed to grippy. Even the finish is somewhat understated for a red, it has length but not quite the vibrant fruit or deep chocolate/vanilla tones that often defines wine of this type. All in all, while the wine may not live to the excitement of its name, Argosy Pirates is a solid red wine that plays well with red meat dishes, grilled food and other high protein dishes.
