Velvet Rider

Wine: Velvet Rider
Country: Italy
Varietals: Syrah (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%)
Made in Italy, Velvet Rider may have a motorcycle on the label, but it brings to me the image of a classic Italian sports car – bold and muscular, yet smooth and agile on the palate. Velvet Rider is a 70/30 blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with aromas of dark red fruit and flavors of black cherry, strawberry, and cocoa – with the bright peppery accent that is typical of the Syrah grape. The tannins are grippy like good racing tires yet are not overpowering, the acidity is classic Italian and the finish is long and supple with red fruit lingering on the palate long after the sip. Costco recommends pairing Velvet Rider with celebratory dinners such as maple-glazed turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy, which make it an appropriate choice for the season. Definitely consider taking Velvet Rider for a spin this holiday season.
