Wine Advent-ure: Day 18

Once Upon A Time

For Day 18 we taste a rosé from the south of France called Once Upon a Time. The South of France is home to many a great region for rosé wine, most notably Provence. Interestingly, Once Upon a Time does not have an AOC label; it is simply a “Vin de France”, the most basic quality tier of French wines. But don’t be fooled, just because a wine has “table wine” status doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable. This rosé fits the bill nicely. with flavors of strawberry, raspberry, watermelon and a hint of flowers. Oddly enough I tasted a bit of anise in there. At least that was my impression of the herbaceous flavor I detected towards the end. My wife commented that she could pick it up as well, so it wasn’t just me. That said while I was surprised at that flavor component it didn’t put me off. The wine is dazzling in its simplicity; light bodied, pleasantly mouth-watering acidity that makes it food friendly. Red fruit on the finish tops it off nicely. Around The World says that this is a versatile rosé, to be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch w/BLTs, and (if you’re disciplined enough to save it) dinner with anything from a salad to Creamy Tuscan dishes. Like many rosés, It’s also perfectly fine on its own as a party drink, which is how I would prefer it.
