Day 15th’s offering is Azzimato, a Montepulciano from the Abruzzo region of Italy, practically the capital of the Montepulciano grape. Costco refers to this as an “Everyday Red”, which may sound mundane to some, however it’s anything but. This wine is a complex, fruity red that showcases the essence of Montepulciano, bursting with flavors of strawberries, blackberries, cherries and black pepper. It’s light in body, but not thin; rather comfortable, thanks to the supple tannins. Lastly Azzimato ends with a red fruit finish that almost prods you for another sip. It is a very food friendly wine, pairing well with complex meals from chicken tikka masala to lasagna. Methinks it would pair nicely with a sausage pizza as well.
