Wine Advent-ure Day 5:

Classic Cruise Sauvignon Blanc

Country: Romania

Romania is one of the unsung countries of the wine world. Even though it is ranked 5th in the European Union for volume of wine produced – and 10th in the world overall, the vast majority of Romanian wine is enjoyed domestically, with the country only exporting 5-6% of its wine abroad.

Sauvignon Blanc is a grape varietal that grows well there, and Romania is making good use of this grape. Classic Cruise is one such example. This is a classic Sauvignon Blac, with flavors and aromas of fresh grapefruit and lemon. There is also an aroma of white flowers. I didn’t find it quite as pronounced as aroundtheworldinwines.com stated, but it is there. There is plenty of acidity but it isn’t an “acid bomb” like some of the New Zealand SB I’ve tried. It’s rather pleasant. Medium-bodied, Classic Cruise closes with a lingering finish of citrus fruit. I paired this with some shrimp and rice pilaf for lunch and it worked well. Overall, it’s a keeper.
